The housing crisis has taken its toll on access to free education. In the academic year 2023/2024, many students could not count on a place in a cheap dormitory. Some were students of later years, who in theory should have priority in recruitment. Rental prices on the free market force students to take up full-time jobs, which clearly affects their academic performance. Some, due to the financial situation, were forced to resign or terminate their studies at the University of Warsaw. The affected are mainly young, working class people from outside Warsaw, whose families cannot afford supporting them during their studies.
The victims and their allies gathered to protest in front of the Auditorium Maximum building during the inauguration of the academic year.
